What To Include
Please include your device model, Android version, what you were trying to do, and what happened.
Splits
- Timer stops in background
- Notifications do not appear
- Cannot hear sounds
- Voice cues do not work
- Import does not work
- My timer cues are too quiet
- Go to Settings and switch Sound profile to Loud. The Loud profile is processed to cut through music and gym noise. Also check your phone's media volume — Splits plays through the media audio channel, not the ringtone or notification channel.
- What does "Lower other audio" do?
- When this setting is on, music, podcasts, or videos briefly reduce in volume when a timer cue plays, then return to normal. Media does not pause or stop. Turn it off if you prefer your media to stay at a constant volume throughout your workout.
Countdown Timer
- Creating an event
- Tap the + button on the home screen. Give your event a name, pick a date (and optionally a time), choose countdown or count-up mode, then tap Save. Your event appears on the list immediately.
- Setting a specific time
- When creating or editing an event, enable the time toggle to pick an hour and minute. If you leave it off, the countdown runs to midnight at the start of that day.
- Repeating events (birthdays, anniversaries)
- When creating or editing an event, set Repeat to "Yearly." After the date passes, the countdown automatically rolls over to the same date next year.
- Reminders
- Each event supports one reminder. Choose how far in advance you want to be notified — one day, one week, or a custom offset. Reminders require the notification permission to be granted on Android 13 and above.
- Count-up mode
- Switch an event to count-up to track how long ago something happened — a sobriety date, a work anniversary, a pet's birthday. The timer counts up from the target date rather than down to it.
- Editing or deleting an event
- Open the event, tap Edit to change any field, or tap Delete to remove it permanently. Deleting an event also cancels any scheduled reminders.
- Archiving an event
- Tap Archive to move a past or inactive event out of your main list without deleting it. Archived events can be viewed from the Archive screen.
- Widget — How do I add one?
- Long-press your home screen, select Widgets, and find Countdown Timer. Drag it onto your home screen. You'll be prompted to choose an event. You can also open any event in the app and tap "Add widget."
- Widget — It shows "Event removed."
- The event this widget was tracking has been deleted or archived. Remove the widget from your home screen and add a new one linked to a different event.
- Widget — It isn't updating.
- The widget refreshes every minute automatically. If it appears frozen, remove and re-add it. If the problem persists, check that battery optimisation is not restricting background activity for the app — you can exempt it in your phone's battery settings.
- Widget — Can I have multiple widgets for different events?
- Yes. Each widget instance tracks one event independently. Add as many as you like from the widget picker.
- Backup and restore
- Go to Settings → Backup to export your events as a JSON file. To restore, tap Import and select the file. This is useful when switching phones or reinstalling the app.
- The app won't schedule reminders after a reboot
- Countdown Timer reschedules all reminders automatically on boot. If reminders stop firing after a restart, open the app to re-register them. On some Samsung and Xiaomi devices, you may also need to allow the app to auto-start in your phone's settings.
